I studied fine arts at the University of New Mexico. When I moved to California, I received her degree in graphic arts. After graduating, I worked with ad agencies and marketing firms to create logos, illustrations and various public relations materials for clients including Kawasaki, Proctor and Gamble and Bank of America.
Fine arts has always been my first love. In 1993, I learned the process for creating bronze sculptures. Sculpting in clay felt like home.
In 2011, I was invited to participate in a show called '20/20'. Each artist had to produce 24 pieces in one month. Each piece had to be 8" x 8". I didn't want to create 24 sculptures but I wanted something that would relate to my bronze work. After pondering the problem for weeks, I wondered if I could control the torch and chemicals enough to make images that were recognizable.
For my first year in the 20/20 show, I chose 'Cats' as the theme. This is how 'TorchArt' - painting with a torch, was created. By the last piece, I was tired of cat faces and created 'The End'.
My latest work is 'Holding onto Freedom' which was part of the 2018 '20/20' show. I loved creating these pieces. It was such a challenge to find ways to present complicated current and past events in a simple representation that invited closer investigation.
My artwork is in private collections internationally.
